Student screenings in Newton
Going into the screenings I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I didn’t know if the projects would be good or bad but after seeing all of them, I could tell how much work was put into making the videos. All of the videos were great and very well put together, there were a few that I really liked. The first video about the guy who walked backwards was very entertaining. I laughed so much. I also really liked the one about stalking. Susie and I were talking about how it could be a clip from a Lifetime Original movie haha. The ending was something I didn’t expect and surprised me a little. There was also a clip of Rock Band in there, lol, which my group is very familiar with. Also I really enjoyed all the topics and issues that were discussed and I really think the groups did a great job in researching and in conducting their interviews. The documentary about diversification in schools helped me learn a few things I didn’t know. For instance, how the board of education was to diversify schools yet at the same time, they are cutting funding and telling kids to go to schools in their neighborhood. By doing so, I feel like we are taking steps back towards schools that are a lot more segregated. Mai’s group’s documentary touched upon topics that we talked about in our class about copyright and how the internet allows us to do so much more now than we could in the past. The internet allows artists to promote their work directly to their fans and gives them free advertisement basically. The clip about buying into what is considered “normal” was another one I really liked. The scene where he was in the trading room and the assistant followed him with her eyes wherever he went, reminded me of times when I would be in a retail store and the sales person would follow me around as if I was going to steal something. All the topics chosen were very interesting and the way the scenes were shot and the videos were put together always kept me interested in watching more. I can’t even imagine how long it took to piece together these projects but the results were great.
